Mission: Miyamoto S1, E1: Discovery Awaits
Location: USS Miyamoto, Various
Timeline: MD001 1100 hours
2077 words - 4.2 OF Standard Post Measure

Location: USS Miyamoto Ready Room

“You wanted to see me, Captain.” Carson after he stood in the position of attention in front of her desk and her ready room.

“Please sit down.” T’Sal said tonelessly. “I wanted to speak with you about a few things.”

“Yes captain, how can I help?” Carson asked, he was a little confused by her comment but he hopes he can help her out.

“I want a report on the crew.” T’Sal replied. “Has everyone settled into their departments.

“I may not be able to give you a full report on that captain, I'm still pretty new here but from all the units I have checked in with everyone seems to be situated, I haven't heard any complaints from the quartermaster.” Carson explained to T’Sal.

“That is excellent.” T’Sal replied. “I have our orders. We will head out in the morning.” She slid a padd over to him.

He wondered how that was excellent. Was she even listening to what he said? Carson also never heard a Vulcan say the word, excellent. It was very strange. He heard the message, they would be leaving in the morning. So in response he said to her, “I will make sure the crew is ready to go.”

“You do not wish to read the mission?” T’Sal stated as she looked at the padd she had slid over to him. She wanted them to work together as she had with Captain Bond but she wasn’t quite certain how to initiate it.

“Of course Captain.” Carson said, as he took the data pad from her so he could read the mission profile for himself. He had a slight smile on his face.

“And what do you think?” T’Sal asked him. She wanted to know his opinion. “I wish to discuss it with you.” Her eyes met his.

“Going behind enemy lines isn't my idea of a good time, but I can understand the need for accurate data.” Carson said as he read through the report. The USS Miyamoto was going to be sent on a quest into uncharted space, they needed to see what the Gorn we're doing. Officially Starfleet with classifying this as a Patrol. The mission could be dangerous. And technically they were going behind enemy lines.

“It is not.” T’Sal agreed. “It is essential, however, as you stated. I am confident our crew will do excellent work and we will collect the data we need.” She was more than ready for this mission, though it was not what she had anticipated.

“The Gorn has not officially laid claim to the space, but they haven't seen there on several occasions. I recommend we stay at yellow alert while we're in uncharted space.” Carson suggested to his captain, hoping that she would follow his lead.

“That is logical.” T’Sal agreed with him. “We will do constant scans for any ship activity as well.” She didn’t want to engage if they did not have to. “We will stay out of scanning range from all other ships.”

“Sounds like we have a plan, a good one if I may be bold.” Carson said with a big smile on his face. He appreciated the fact that the captain as well as to take his threat assessment at face value.

“Agreed.” T’Sal said in a monotone voice. “Did you have anything to bring to me?” She didn’t want to assume he had just come because she had asked him to.

“No but give me a little time with the senior staff and I'll have something to bring you.” He was hoping answers, and a decent strategy plan.

“Understood.” T’Sal said in return. “I am pleased that the crew is comfortable enough to approach you with their concerns.

“It's I trusted I take very seriously, I'll work hard for my crew.” Carson said with the humble smile on his face, this scene starts to fade away.

T’Sal was appreciative of Carson’s response. She wanted a solid working relationship between them. When she felt they were on the correct path she would ask for his continuance on her quest to understand humans better.

Location USS Miyamoto, Conference Room

“Thank you all for meeting with me.” Carson said as he called the meeting of the senior staff together. The only person not in the meeting was the captain. “I've spoken to the Captain, and she wants us to come up with a plan. “Certainly wants us to go into a charter space, and track the Gorn movement. Officially will be doing survey missions in uncharted space.”

“We will want to be a bit stealth about it.” Brandon spoke up. “I would recommend having a plan for a hiding place or two. As we all know the Gorn are highly suspicious, they will be watching us carefully if we are spotted.”

“Sometimes the best offense is a good defense.” Carson suggested as he is in agreement with Brandon. It sounded like their main mission was to observe and report. No need to get into an unnecessary conflict if you don't have to.

“The idea is to stay out of their radar, if possible.” Cole spoke up. “At least as I see it.” He looked at Carson. “I would recommend I do deep scans so that we can avoid other ships as much as possible.

Carson nodded in agreement, it was a good idea. “So far these are all good plans, does anybody else have any ideas to add or to build upon this?” He asked, helping other members of his senior staff to speak up.

Victoria smiled as she decided to go ahead and chime in. “Well he's doing deep scans, I'm going to monitor all communication signals, see if there's anybody else out there that we just can't see in our sensors. Hopefully our scans will jam them long enough for us to sneak a board and stay out of sight.” Victoria suggested.

“Even if we do manage to sneak on board it's only going to be a matter of time before we're spotted, I think our best approach is to take over the bridge, and will have control of their ship. Victoria said as she looked at Carson.

“Even if we can blind them for a few minutes it will give us a tactical advantage, get in, secure the bridge, download whatever files we need to before they realize what's going on.” Carson suggested, all this was speculative at this point and they were assuming they were going to run into a Gorn ship.

“For the time being though I think we should run our long range sensors to their max, which means we're going to have to temporarily draw power away from other areas of the ship in order to extend our range. I would like to work with our tactical officer just to make sure we have overlap and we're not missing anything between my biological scans and his tactical scans.” Miri suggested to Carson.

“What do you think, Lieutenant Peterson?” Carson asked as he waited for Cole to respond to Miri’s suggestion.

“That is a sound plan.” Cole replied with a nod. “Working on it together is a definite advantage for us.” He thought Miri came up with an excellent idea.

“This is a good opportunity for you both to show your talents, I want to avoid an open conflict if at all possible.” Carson suggested to the two of them.

“We are up for it.” Cole said with confidence. He had served with Miri before and he knew her quality of work.

“Cole can do it, I have faith in his abilities.” Victoria said with a big grin on her face.

“I worked with Cole before on Alexandria, this should be simple enough.” Miri suggested to Carson.

Cole grinned at their comments. These were his friends, ever since they had walked onto Alexandria, years before, they had become more than just crew members to one another. “I always give it my all.” He looked over to the others. “They are an exceptional crew as well. We had great leadership back then. And still do.”

Carson just grinned, but he thought Cole's comment was a little over the top. “When you all come from other crews, I'm just curious to see what this great can do. I know that you'll have him within you to be the best team in all of Starfleet.

“We do our best.” Cole replied seriously now. “All of us. We are here because this is all we have ever wanted to do.” He paused. “We won't let you down.”

“I’m not sure what we will encounter, but we need to make sure that we are prepared for all potential outcomes.” Carson suggested to the group.

Miri nodded her head in agreement. “I believe the scans will give us a better chance of understanding what is happening out here. We will find out what the Gorn are doing.” She said, as she looked to Carson and then over to Cole.

“Agreed.” Cole nodded. “We will have a much better idea for what our plan will be.” He would feel a lot better doing things this way.

“We could dwell on this, but I think we have a good plan. Now we just need to refine it.” Carson said as the scene started to fade away.

Cole agreed with him and set out to help get things worked out so they would have a solid plan going forward. He was looking forward to working with Miri.

Location: USS Miyamoto, Bridge

A few hours had passed, and Miri and Cole were working together searching for any signs of Gorn Hegemony ships. Just when it seemed like all hope was lost, Miri got a hit on her sensors. “Captain T’Sal I'm detecting Gorn life signs.” Miri called out.

“Location.” T’Sal replied. “I trust we are far enough away that they cannot detect us.” It was a statement not a question.

“I believe so, I don't know how good their sensors are.” Miri suggested to her captain. She wondered if Cole knew that information.

“Not as good as ours, that is for certain.” Cole spoke up. “They have not detected us, we just want to be careful not to move too close to them unless we plan on answering some questions or getting shot at.”

“Lieutenant Lamont.” T’Sal spoke to the flight control officer. “Continue to keep our distance. It is imperative they do not detect us.”

“Yes Captain.” Brandon replied. “Steady as she goes.” He smiled then, thinking the Vulcan captain probably wondered what that meant.”

T’Sal turned to Miri. “Are we close enough to be able to pick up any communications they may be engaged in?”

“I believe we are, I would like to point out, Captain, that their communications are encrypted.” Miri suggested to her captain. She also knew if anyone cracked it would be their chief of security, not their science officer.

“Lieutenant Peterson.” T’Sal turned to Cole. “You are experienced in breaking encryptions.” She waited for him to answer.

“I'll try, captain, I do have some experience but I am not very familiar with the Gorn. He was recalling his days of encryption when he was fighting in the Klingon-Federation War of 2256.

“I have confidence in you.” T’Sal returned as she looked over to him. “Collect any information you can ascertain and report it to the commander.”

“Aye captain.” Cole said, knowing to himself that he had a difficult task ahead of him. But he liked challenges, so he would give this challenge his all.

“I'll do what I can to assist you Lieutenant Peterson.” Miri called out as she looked over to Cole. He simply nodded in her general direction, acknowledging that he had heard her.

T’Sal had confidence that Miri and Cole would be able to pick something up from the Gorn that would be useful. She looked over to Carson to see if he had anything to add.

Carson can see the look in her eyes, but he had nothing else to add as the scene starts to fade away.

T’Sal turned back in her chair and picked up her pad and started working on some paperwork. She knew her officers would let them know when they came up with something notable.
