Mission: S1, E0: We need each other.
Location: Various
Timeline: MD001 1235 hrs
1019 words - 2 OF Standard Post Measure

"Seems to early to head back to work, if you are not busy, you wanna take a walk with me?" April Collins asked Hunter Mitchell. She was really enjoying his company.

“I would like that,” Hunter said with a nod. He had tried to think of a way to spend more time with her but he didn’t want to seem too forward. “Any direction in particular?”

"Not a clue, just thought about working off some of that food." April said, with a big grin on her face.

“Then let’s head down the corridor and see where it takes us,” Hunter smiled. “I like to be spontaneous.”

"It can be fun and very adventurous." April said, not sure if she liked the idea. But she was willing to give it a chance. Part of her was still thinking about the conversation she had with her mother earlier today.

“So this is your first assignment?” Hunter asked her, hoping she would expand on that.

"It is, still trying to wrap my head around the idea, this is a five year mission." April said, finding it a little unbelievable she just admitted that to him.

“It is a long one,” Hunter nodded. “And I thought about it at first but honestly I am glad to know I will be here for a long period of time.”

"If I may ask, how did your family and friends take the news?" She asked, curious if it went well, or turned into a diaster.

“My parents weren’t happy,” Hunter admitted. “But then they are holding out on me coming home and giving up on my life in Starfleet.”

April was not surprised to hear that. Pretty typical parent response. "Mine tried to show the illusion of supporting my decision, but they are sad and dissapointed too. But we must live our own lives, right?" April asked, looking for re assurance they were both making the right decision.

“It’s the generational curse for me,” Hunter explained. “They wanted me to follow in their footsteps and their parents before them and I chose my own path.”

"What was the curse?" April asked. She had no idea, what his family curse or traditions were like. She hoped he would tell her.

“My family has owes the same business for many generations,” Hunter expanded on his previous words. “The curse is them expecting me to follow through on it, get married and have babies so they can do the same.”

"Ahh I see, that must have been hard to follow your own dreams, and not go into the family business." April stated to him with a tone of respect.

“The hardest part was making them see I was serious,” Hunter said quietly. “And saying goodbye. I love my parents but I needed to live my dreams.”

"Amen, I completely agree with you." April said, with a warm smile on her face.

Hunter smiled widely. “I actually think they respect me more and I believe my Dad understands. He didn’t want that life.”

"My parents felt the same way." April said, thinking it was nice to see someone else that was going through the same thing as she was.

Hunter smiled. “I feel so much better that you have an understanding for what I have gone through.” He wouldn’t wish it on anyone but it helped.

"Where are we heading?" April asked, as they continued to walk down the corridors.

“Looks like science,” Hunter murmured. “Or we could stop by operations and take a look.”

"Either option is fine with me." April said, she was just happy not to be alone on her first night. And he was pretty fun company.

“Let’s go to operations first,” Hunter suggested. “And see what state of the art equipment they have.”

"I like the way you think." April said, with a big grin on her face. She continued to follow him.

Hunter looked around as the door slid open and they walked inside. “This is impressive.”

"Yes it is." April said, as she walked in behind him, and was checking out his body, especially his tight little ass.

Hunter glanced over at her and grinned, catching her eyes on him. His eyes went to hers. “I like what I see.”

"Eyes on the console, not the girl." April said, in a teasing voice. Nice move she thought. He was clearly testing the waters.

Hunter grinned as they walked further into the department. “You can’t blame a guy.” He said with a laugh.

"I suppose I can not." April said, as she kept the smile she had facing away from him. She did not want him to see just yet, that she really did not mind it.

Hunter was nervous, had he been too forward? He decided to lay back and play it cool and feel her out. “What do you think?” He asked.

"The lab is nice, a little to high tech for my liking. But that's probably why I am not a scientist." She said, with a big grin on her face.

“It looks too perfect I think,” Hunter replied. “Quiet even. I like to see crew busy in their labs.”

"Not sure if I could work in a quiet enviroment. My mind likes to wonder if there is nothing to keep it distracted." April suggested to him.

“It’s why I like engineering,” Hunter said with a smile. “Never a dull moment and it’s not quiet at all.”

"Keep those engines working is all I ask." April suggested, with a big grin on her face. "I hate being grounded, like we are now. I am pilot, and love to fly." She pointed out.

“Oh they will run smoothly,” Hunter promised her. “I pride myself in giving it my all.”

April just grinned as the scene starts to fade away. She smiled as she just simply said, "Good."

Hunter moved along beside her, glad that they had met in the lunchroom and had decided on this walk.
