Mission: S1, E0: We need each other.
Location: Bridge
Timeline: MD
1021 words - 2 OF Standard Post Measure

April was heading to the bridge area, when she noticed a man in a gold uniform hovering around the bridge. It did not take her long to realize, it was the Captain. "Good Afternoon Captain." She said, with a warm smile.

"Afternoon Ensign, its Collins right?" Steven asked hoping he got her name correct. He barely glanced at her file. She was a junior officer on the ship, and she was not slated to meet with the captain. Only her department head and the first officer.

"Yes Sir. It's truly a pleasure to meet you sir." April said, with a warm smile on her face.

"Thanks. I am very humbled to be here, and to lead you all for the next five years." Steven said, with a big humbling grin on his face.

"I can not wait to see what we discover over the next five years." April said, wondering deep in her thoughts, what would they discover?

"Five years is a long time, and I have a feeling by the time we return, we will have learned so much, and imagine what scientific discoveries will we bring with us, when we do return." Steven suggested to her with a big grin.

"Part of the reason, why I requested a five year assignment." Alison said, with a big grin on her face.

"I said the same thing on my first five year tour. I was serving on the USS Marklin, as Chief of Security, worked my way up to Second Officer." Steven said, with a hint of pride in his tone.

"That is incredible sir." Alison wondering if that was his first assignment, or his second assignment. He mentioned being a second officer as well, which told her, at least 4 hours under his tenure.

"Took a little about of time, but I got there, the best advice I can give is, to focus on your job and do your best. Learn to strategize and anticipate what your OIC needs, so that way, he or she recommends you for promotion." Steven suggested to her, with a humbling smile.

"I'll keep that in mind sir." Alison said, with a warm smile on her face.

"What brings you up to the bridge?" Steven asked. He was not expecting her or anyone else up on the bridge.

"I hope I am not disturbing you sir, I just wanted to check out the helmsman station." April said, with a warm smile on her face.

"Not at all, please come on over. I have a feeling you will be spending a lot of time in that chair." Steven said, with a big grin oh his face as he walked over to the helmsman station with her, he stood in front of it. "Take a seat, give it a try." Steven said, as he pointed to the helmsman station.

April smiled, as she walked over to the seat. "Okay." April said, as she walked right behind the chair. She could see the captain in front of the display panel.

"Don't be shy, have a seat." Steven suggested to her, with a big smile on his face. He could see that she was a little timidated by that.

April had a nervous smile on her face, as she went to sit down in the chair. It was a little more comfortable, than she thought it would be.

"Remember when you sit in that chair, and serve on this bridge. You are a making a difference, and you become part of the legacy that is Starfleet." Steven said to her with a grin.

"No pressure or anything." She said in a playful manner. She was deeply humbled to be sitting on the bridge, and in her future station.

"You got this, and you will do great." Steven said, as he watched her get more situated in the chair. He could tell that she was a little tense. It could have something to do with the fact, he was hovering over her.

“Thanks Captain, this chair is more comfortable, than I thought it would be.” April said, with a big smile on her face, as she scooted around a bit.
“I know what you mean, that command chair behind you is pretty comfortable as well.” Steven suggested, as he admired the chair from where he was standing.

“That chair, comes with a lot of responsibility, clearly it’s meant for you Captain.” Alison suggested to him, trying to make that sound like compliment.

“I think any of us can take on its burden of responsibility with a little training.” Steven suggested to her, with a warm smile. “Have you ever thought about command. I know a silly question to ask an Ensign straight out of the Academy.” He suggested to her with a grin. He remembered he thought about it, straight out of the academy.

Alison grinned at his comment. Then she humbly replied to him. “Me a Captain, sure some day, it’s one of my ambitions. I know I have a lot to learn before I even consider it.”

“You don’t know what you are capable of, until you put yourself out there.” Steven pointed out to her. Then he went on. “Before this tour is up, make sure to put yourself out there. Get on an away mission. Take some extra shifts as a duty officer. Start small and work your way from there.” Steven suggested to her, with a big grin on his face.

“I will Captain, I like the idea of taking on a duty shift. After I get use to how things are suppose to run on the bridge.” Alison said, with a big smile on her face. The idea of taking command for a little while, was very appealing to her. Would allow her to see if she truly liked the big chair.

“You wont regret it, if you do. Taking command is a big responsibility; it also brings purpose to your life, and can help you grow as a person.” Steven said, as the scene starts to fade away.
