Mission: Miyamoto S1, E1: Discovery Awaits
Location: USS Miyamoto, Various
Timeline: MD001 1000 hours
1916 words - 3.8 OF Standard Post Measure

Location: Priors World Orbit

The USS Miyamoto was now in orbit over Priors World. Captain T’Sal had been given her orders. And for the moment the crew of the Miyamoto were carry out those orders.

“You have an awfully quiet since we came bored.” Carson said to Kaitlyn in their shared quarters. They were both unpacking getting ready to settle in to their new lives.

“It seems like a lot has happened in such a short time.” Kaitlyn explained. “I am excited and nervous at the same time.”

“What has you nervous?” Carson asked, he wanted to help his lovely girlfriend out. Hopefully alleviate some of that concern.

“A new ship.” Kaitlyn explained. “A new captain and meeting new people. It’s not so easy for the doctor to make friends. I miss Clara and Preston. What she wasn’t saying was it wasn’t easy for her in particular.

“I hate using that old cheesy line, all things must come to an end. I have a feeling both of them are doing pretty well with their new assignments as we will hear on the Miyamoto.” Carson suggested to Kaitlyn and then gave her a hug.

Kaitlyn hugged him back. “I am excited, things will be better once we are settled.” She paused. “What’s the captain Like?” She knew Carson had met her already.

“Very Vulcan, however she does have a curiosity about our species.” Carson suggested to Kaitlyn. He believed that she had a genuine interest in their species, and he felt like she would do right by them.

“That is unusual.” Kaitlyn murmured. “A Vulcan who wants to know more about us, I like that.”

“I like it as well, she seems really nice. But if I didn't know better, she carries her emotions towards the surface of her demeanor.” Carson suggested to Kaitlyn.

“I bet her superiors do not like that:” Kaitlyn murmured. “It says a lot about her that she is willing to step outside the normal and discover who she wants to be for herself.”

“Why would Starfleet care?” Carson asked. He was not sure why they would care if a Vulcan carry their feelings towards the surface.

“I was thinking of the Vulcan hierarchy, not ours.” Kaitlyn explained. “I know I was a bit confusing with that statement.”

“Why should they have a say, in Starfleet matters?” Carson asked, wondering where she was going with this. He didn't realize that she had more experience with Vulcans, and how much the high command likes to interfere with things.

“The Vulcan High Council has a lot of influence.” Kaitlyn informed him. “The Federation doesn’t want to insult one of their oldest Allie’s. It’s politics.”

“Everything seems to boil down to politics, especially when it comes to the Vulcans. But we need to look past politics, if we're going to have a future in Starfleet.” Carson suggested to Kaitlyn.

“I agree.” Kaitlyn said with a smile. “We need to get command to treat them like everyone else. It will be an uphill battle.”

Carson was not sure what she meant by that, but he just smiled at her. “You make it sound like Starfleet is not willing to assist?” He said, hoping she would explain her answer.

“Some of the Admirals can be quite set in their ways.” Kaitlyn said with a smile. “They have become accustomed to this way of thinking but I believe that they can change.”

“I see. I don't think they are beyond redemption.” Carson said, wondering how she could see the admiralty as cynical people. War had changed them a little, but he would not believe they were beyond hope. Someday he would be an admiral, and he wanted to believe that he would not be seen in the same light as she saw the admiralty today.

“They are not.” Kaitlyn agreed with a smile. “And some of the new admirals have already changed their way of thinking. No matter what race a person is it they sign up for Starfleet they should make the call how long they serve.

“What?” Carson said confusingly. He was not sure what she meant by that. He wondered what she was going on about?

“Never mind.” Kaitlyn shook her head with a smile. “You know me sometimes I just go on and on about a subject.”

“So what do you think of the Miyamoto itself?” Carson asked, he personally liked the malachowski class starship design. He knew it was an older design, but a stable workhorse of the fleet.

“I expected something archaic.” Kaitlyn said. “From what I heard others say. I was pleasantly surprised to find it is a classy looking ship.”

“She's a good ship with a good history. I'm glad I get to add to that legacy.” Carson suggested with the big smile on his face.

“It will look good on both our records.” Kaitlyn smiled. “I can’t wait to take a look at sickbay.” She liked the opportunity to move to a new ship. Change wasn’t always bad.

“I was kind of hoping to get something to eat.” Carson suggested to her. But if she really wanted to stop by sick but he wasn't going to stop her.

“Yes.” Kaitlyn said with a smile. “I’m hungry, let’s eat and get settled in our quarters. I am not in that big of a hurry.”

“I'm happy to hear that, because there's a lot of the ship I want to see but spending time with you as always top of my priority list.” Carson said said with a big loving grin on his face.

“For me as well.” Kaitlyn smiled. “Let’s make the most of the time we have before we need to go on shift or to a meeting.”

“Join me for lunch?” Carson asked, as the scene started to fade away.

“Yes.” Kaitlyn said with a smile. She was looking forward to their new adventure. She couldn’t wait to see Carson in his new role.

Location: USS Miyamoto, Mess Hall

“I'm starting to miss Chef Williams.” Carson said noticing the Miyamoto didn't have a chef. This was a problem that needed to be solved as soon as possible.

“Perhaps the captain will look into getting one for us of the right person wet to ask.” Kaitlyn smiled at him. “I could go as backup that medically speaking the crew is happier with a chef which helps to have a good crew.”

“Or maybe we can find one.” Carson suggested to Kaitlyn. He wanted a chef as soon possible.

“Oh, let’s!” Kaitlyn grinned. “That is a great idea and I am certain the captain will be really happy!” She liked this idea.

“The next time we're on the station, I'll start looking there's a lot of civilians looking for work.” Carson said with a big grin.

“I can help you out.” Kaitlyn suggested. “Two heads are better than one they say.” She was more than willing to help out.

“I would appreciate the help.” Carson said with a warm smile on his face.

That made Kaitlyn feel really good. “I’m looking forward to this. We want to get a good cook!”

“Until then though, replicated food.” Carson said, trying to sound positive. It was hard though, after all it was replicated food.

“We will have to endure.” Kaitlyn said. “With the thought of getting a chef in our future.” She thought they needed to have to move fast though.

“Do you have any recommendations for decent replicated food, besides ice cream?” Carson said with a big smile on his face.

Kaitlyn thought for a moment. “The chicken salad isn’t bad and I had the chicken tortellini once and it was passable.”

Carson wasn't very sure of her decision to recommend chicken. “I don't know, replicated chicken doesn't sound any good to me.”

“The meatloaf isn’t all that bad either.” Kaitlyn shrugged. “The better question would be what are you hungry for.”

“I've never been a fan of meatloaf, I know a crime right?” Carson said teasingly.

Kaitlyn smiled at him. “There are choices, decide what is the lesser of all evils”.

“I wonder how lasagna taste replicated?” Carson asses you like Kaitlyn.

“You should try it.” Kaitlyn smiled. “I can try yours to see if it is something I want to order sometime.”

“You know there are some delicacies that should never be tried, like fried crickets or potted meat.” Carson pointed out to his lovely girlfriend.

Kaitlyn’s eyes widened and she shuddered. “Definitely put those on my never to try list.” The thought of it was bad enough.

“Well I'm glad we agree on that.” Carson said thinking about how fried crickets and potted meat sounds like a bad idea.

“I’m not into trying new things like that.” Kaitlyn said with a smile, though a hint of seriousness. She had tried a few things before but it had never been successful.

“At least we're in agreement about that.” Carson said teasingly. “I'm thinking a grilled cheese sandwich and some soup, I don't think the replicator can mess that up too much.”

“”I’m going to go with the chicken salad.” Kaitlyn smiled. “That sounds good to me.” She actually didn’t mind it so much from the replicator.

Carson smiled at the idea. But he was going to stick with his choice. He had a craving for a grilled cheese sandwich.

“Let’s grab our food and sit at that table in the corner.” Kaitlyn said with a smile. She liked not being in the center of the room, it was hard to hear at times.”

“What about the far corner with the window view?” Carson asked, you didn't like staring at the bulkheads he'd rather look out his face and see the beautiful scenery.

“Yes!” Kaitlyn said with a smile. “That is perfect.” She was glad for them to have time together. With their positions there would be times they wouldn’t.

They both walked over to the window table. “This is the second best view on this ship.” Carson said a little mushy, as he left over to Kaitlyn with love in his eyes.

Kaitlyn smiled, feeling herself blush a bit. “You always know the right things to say to me.” Her eyes met his. “I am so happy you took a chance on me.”

“That wasn't too cheesy?* Carson asked but the nervous smile on his face. He meant well but he thought to himself that it was a little cheesy.

“Not at all.” Kaitlyn said seriously. “You make me feel special and that is something that I hadn’t felt in a long time before meeting you.”

“I think Love's blinded you, but I am okay with that.” Carson said with a smirk, trying to reaffirm his masculinity.

Kaitlyn laughed softly. “Blind? I don’t think so. It’s more of blessed because I know what I have.”

“Well I'm glad to hear that, but I think you are a little blinded but in a good way.” Carson said with the big grin on his face.

“Well if it is a good thing.” Kaitlyn said. “Then I am happy for certain.”

Carson just smiled at her comment, her words we're very soothing as the scene faced away.

Kaitlyn smiled back at him, thinking she was grateful they had been assigned together. She had just found him she didn’t want to be separated.
