Mission: S1, E0: We need each other.
Location: Home Residence on Earth
Timeline: MD001 1005 hrs
1141 words - 2.3 OF Standard Post Measure

April walked into her room. She had her duffle bag in hand. She looked inside, and debated what to grab. So many choices, not all of it was going to fit in the room.

Jennifer walked into the room with her. "I have never understood why Starfleet only allows you to take a duffle bag full of things." Jennifer pointed out.

"I guess they do not expect ensigns to have a lot of personal belongings, or maybe its to teach them to get by with less. I'm not sure." April said.

Jennifer was not really looking for a response. She did appreciate the effort non the less from April, to give her a response.

"Whatever you dont take, I want to keep." Tina said, as she walked into the room. And took a seat on her bed.

"Will see." April said, with a big grin on her face. She was not sure, if she was ready to depart with any of her stuff. She had debated about putting some of it in storage.

"I want your desk, and those chairs." Tina said, with a big smile on her face.

"Why not, the Lexington has a chair and a desk for me, but only if Mom says okay first." April suggested to Tina. It would be upto her mother to decide.

"I think that would be a good idea." Jennifer said, with a supporting and loving smile on her face.

Tina got off the bed, and gave April a hug. "I am going to miss you, five years is a long time." Tina pointed out. In her eyes, that would be a life time.

"I have a feeling, it will go by in a blink of an eye." April suggested to her, with a warm smile on her face.

"I hope not, I am ready to be an adult yet." Tina suggested to her older sister. She loved being a kid.

"Fair point, but for my sanity, I am hoping it does." April said, with a warm hearted smile on her face.

"When you are done with your deployment, make sure to come home and see your family." Jennifer pointed out.

"I will Momma." April said, thinking this was one of the hardest moments of her life. Getting ready to pack up all her stuff, and head off the Lexington.

"Now that does not mean, if the Lexington returns to earth before the completion of her mission, that you get a pass without seeing your family." Jennifer pointed out to her.

"Yes Momma, if we can home early. You would be the first stop." April pointed out to her. She meant that too, she loved her family.

"Good good." Jennifer said, as she walked over to the bed. "Please take this blanet, I heard how cold space can be." Jennifer told her. It was a quilt blanket, that her mother had made for her.

"Planned on it." April said, as she started to fold it up, to put in the duffle bag.

"Mom, don't make this harder on April." Tina called out, seeing the guilt that Momma was putting on April.

"It's fine Tina, we are all trying to cope." April said to Tina.

Jennifer reached over to Tina, she knew her little one needed a hug. This was very emotional for them all. "Were gonna be fine, and April is getting the chance to live her dream. Someday soon it will be your turn to live your life. And I will be there to support your day too."

April walked over, and sat next to her sister and mother. And joined in on the hug. "I hope you understand, this is something I need to do."

"I understand, but it does not make it any easier." Tina proclaimed to her and to her mother.

"You're right, it does not make it any easier. Part of me wishes you all were coming with me." April said to them.

"In a away we are, we will be right here with you, in your heart." Jennifer said, as she hugged both girls.

"Momma dont get all sappy, your gonna make me cry." April said, trying to hold back the tears.

"It's okay to cry pumpkin." Jennifer suggested to her daughter.

"You always know what ot say." April said, still holding back the tears, and leaning into her mothers hug.

"Comes with years of experience and raising you girls." Jennifer said, with a warm smile.

"I hope someday when its my turn to be a momma, I am half of smart as you are." April said, with a big smile on her face.

"Someday you will be. I have no doubt about that at all." Jennifer said, as she started to look around the room. "There is still more stuff to pack up." She pointed out to April and Tina.

"I want to take most of my clothes, and a couple of nick knacks, but which ones to choose, is hard." April pointed out to the two of them. There was so much to go through. So many memories, so many things she wanted to take. If she had her way, this entire room would be going with her. But not all of it would fit in her duffle bag.

"Lets go through them all one by one, before you know it this duffle bag will be full, and you will be back on the Lexington." Jennifer said, as she got off the bed, and started to look around the room.

"I really do appreciate your help." April told her, this made it easier then being alone in her room, while packing up her memories. She preferred to have her mother and sister with her. She hated the idea of being alone. She had the next five years for that. Today she was going to spend as much time as she could with them. She knew, that soon she would be gone for five years. And after she left, life as she knew it would never be the same.

Transitioning from childhood to adulthood was not easy, and it was very scary. She knew she had to partake in this adventure, and she knew it would be a struggle. At least when she made this transition, she was doing so, with something that inspired her, and something she wanted to do. She looked to her momma, to see if she had any guidance to say at the moment.

"Anytime pumpkin, anytime." Jennifer said, as they started to go through everything, figuring out what April should take with her.

The scene starts to fade away, with Tina, Jennifer and April going through all the clothing and nick knacks of April. The choices were not easy, but eventually they got the duffle bag filled.
